Special to the Tribune-Star
The taste of this recipe will surprise you. I make it for Christmas and I don’t tell anyone what it’s called.
This is another recipe from Mary Hunter. Her husband, Jim, gave me her recipes. I’ve had such fun making these new recipes. And this one is so easy to make.
This pie calls for walnuts, which I didn’t have, so I used pecans.
3 egg whites
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
3/4 cup chopped walnuts
3/4 cup soda cracker crumbs
1 teaspoon baking powder
• Beat egg whites very stiff, fold in sugar, vanilla, walnuts, soda crackers crumbs and baking powder.
• Pour into a 9-inch buttered pie pan.
• Bake at 300 degrees for 25 minutes.
• Cool for 4 hours. Then top with whipped topping.
