TRIED ’N’ TRUE: Country Apples in the slow cooker

Can you believe we are almost into the holiday season? I have been getting requests for some easy recipes for the holidays using the slow cooker. Having everyone busy, busy, busy, we need all the help we can get.

This first one comes from my cousins in Wichita, Kan. Blanche and Helen were always making applesauce and apple butter in slow cookers, and when I would visit they would make some Country Apples. Now, I’m not much on cooked apples, but I loved these for breakfast. It was so easy to make. You can make them in your small slow cooker. Thanks, girls.

Country Apples

4 - 5 cups apples, peeled and sliced

2 tablespoons flour

1⁄4 cup sugar (can use sweetener)

1⁄3 cup raisins

1⁄4 teaspoon cinnamon

2⁄3 cup dry oats

1 cup water

2 tablespoons butter, melted

1⁄3 cup brown sugar (can use sweetener)

• Coat apples in flour and sugar.

• Stir in raisins, cinnamon and oatmeal.

• Pour water into slow cooker.

• Add apple mixture.

• Pour melted butter over the apples.

• Sprinkle with brown sugar.

• Cover and cook on low for 5-6 hours.

Note: Can serve over ice cream as a dessert or over oatmeal for breakfast. Can use any way you can think of.
