‘Smokey Joe’s’ takes look into classic moment in American culture

TERRE HAUTE — Audiences will be rocking and rolling with “Smokey Joe’s Café” in Tilson Auditorium on Friday. The timeless musical revue is set to play one night only as part of Indiana State University’s Performing Arts Series, sponsored by Terre Haute Savings Bank.

With nearly 40 of the most recognizable rock ’n’ roll songs ever recorded, “Smokey Joe’s Café” is a look into a classic moment in American culture. Songs such as “On Broadway,” “Hound Dog,” and “Jailhouse Rock” will keep audiences dancing right along with the performers.

After a long run on Broadway, “Smokey Joe’s Café” cemented itself in history by becoming the longest running Broadway musical revue. This version is presented by the Irving Street Rep, a popular performance group well known for bringing some of the best African American artists in New York to the rest of the country.

The show will start at 7:30 p.m. Ticket holders are advised to come early to enjoy a complimentary pre-show event beginning at 6:45.

Tickets are available through the ISU Hulman Center Ticket Office, www.ticketmaster.com, or by calling 800-745-3000. Ticket prices start at $19 for adults, $5 for youth, and $11 for ISU faculty/staff members. ISU students will be admitted for free with a valid ISU ID.
