Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology’s Hatfield Hall has added an additional show to this season’s 10th anniversary performing arts series with The Acting Company’s performance of Shakespeare’s “As You Like It,” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The Acting Company started its national tour of “As You Like It” in January. After rehearsing in New York, the company’s performances began at the renowned Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis on Jan. 12, before traveling to 29 cities in 22 states.
The cast includes actors from some of the finest acting conservatories in the U.S., cast in New York and through the Guthrie Experience and its training program with the University of Minnesota.
Founded by John Houseman and Margot Harley in 1972, the company has performed 138 productions in 49 states and 10 foreign countries, earning a 2003 TONY for Excellence in Theater, Obies, Audelcos and Los Angeles Critics Circle Awards.
“As You Like It,” is a comedy that follows Rosalind and Orlando as they elope into a forest filled with beastly-men and human-like plants and animals.
Dan Rothenberg, artistic director of Philadelphia’s Pig Iron Theatre has directed the comedy.
“In Shakespeare’s ’As You Like It,’ characters explore various forms of the stages of life: the natural and the man-made; the selfish and the generous, frightening and embracing and reminds us that we are all, simply mammals, that require the greatest healing of all: love,” Rothenberg said.
