Clabber Girl Museum exhibit features artist’s renderings of classic cars

TERRE HAUTE — Neil Garrison’s love of classic cars started as a young boy when he would build car models on rainy days.

He recently returned to the classic auto theme, creating several paintings now on display at the historic Clabber Girl museum located in the Hulman & Co. building at Ninth Street and Wabash Avenue in downtown Terre Haute.

Most of the popular American auto makers are represented in this show, “American Made Classics on 4 Wheels,” including Ford, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Plymouth and Pontiac.

The show also represents media such as acrylic paintings, digital art and a watercolor series.

The show combines two series of classic auto paintings. Viewers can enjoy a mini-series titled the “Newport Hill Climb Series,” which consists of several canvas paintings based on classic autos shown at the nearby Newport Hill Climb in Vermillion County.

Garrison also recently completed a watercolor series of classic cars and trucks from 1925 to 1978 from a variety of autos seen at area car shows, including Terre Haute and Rockville. The watercolor series also incorporates familiar cityscapes from Terre Haute and surrounding areas.

One classic car to notice in this series is a 1960 Terre Haute police car. Garrison hopes to sell reproduction prints of this image to raise money for the Terre Haute Police Widows & Orphans fund.

Original paintings and reproduction prints will be for sale.

The show will be on display throughout March.
