Indie film ‘Cheery Point’ to screen exclusively in Clinton Saturday

CLINTON — Tommy Martin is bringing an exclusive screening experience of his new film “Cheery Point,” a Versa Studios Media production, to his hometown at the Clinton Community Recreation Center at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Martin, an Indiana State University alumnus, plays the lead character, Joshua Barrett, a young man conditioned into a life free from pain.

Joshua Barrett, in his late-20s, lives in the small town of Cheery Point in the year 2017. In the film, U.S. citizens have been convinced by their government in the late 1960s to conform to a new welfare program. It stipulated that the newly created drug Torpase was essential for everyday living, as it eliminates all psychological and physical pain by delivery of an insulin-like pump on the abdomen. As a result, people simply exist, without the need or knowledge of art, religion or emotional empathy toward one other.

Several cast and crew members will attend the screening to answer questions and sign posters.

The movie sold out at its first screening through Apex theatres in Louisville to a 200-seat crowd within a week through social media alone.

The movie is not yet rated, but it contains action violence, suggestive content and some mild language.

Tickets are available at the Clinton Community Recreation Center, 301 Blackman St., Clinton, or at

A portion of the proceeds will go to Nathan’s Playroom, which provides toy-based care packages and is developing a pilot program for an in-facility toy room at a local children’s hospital.
