Mark Cook returns to Valley with four shows, new album

TERRE HAUTE — Mark Cook returns to the Wabash Valley this weekend with several performances with his band, Cook-N-Blues. The band will perform from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Rick’s Smokehouse & Grill at 3102 Wabash Ave., 9 p.m. to midnight Friday at Clinton Eagles, at 8 p.m. Saturday at Zorah Shrine Temple, 420 N. Seventh St., and from 6 to 10 p.m. Sunday at the Brazil Eagles.

Cook will be bringing home a new album, his seventh album release, a follow-up to last year’s “Bluzin’ It.”

Cook describes his newest CD as a blues album that takes listeners back to the crossroads. “It’s a journey to the roots of the Delta, very organic sounding, a lot of dobro and acoustic guitar textures,” he said in an email.

“I was also fortunate to find the vocal talents of Tommy Brown,” Cook added. “He is 82 years old and is still very active as a blues singer … He recorded his first album in 1948. He had a No. 1 hit with the song “Weepin and Crying.”

Also on the CD is Adam Moraga and Brad Dart from the Cook-N-Blues band. Steve Rusin of Terre Haute, who has played harmonica on all of Cook’s albums, returns on the newest.

Back in Atlanta, Cook has been working on three projects and sharing the stage with such bands as Sister Hazel, Little Feat, and Derek St. James of the Ted Nugent band. His music also has been heard on a number of television shows including: Lost, Kyle XY, A&E’s The Glades, Grimm, Auction Kings, Pawn Stars, American Pickers and more.
