ISU series to offer mentalist, acrobats, iconic singer

TERRE HAUTE — Through the years Indiana State University’s Performing Arts Series has drawn exceptional talent to the Wabash Valley, but the 2013-2014 season is shaping up to be its best year yet, with stars and acts from all over the world coming to town.

The six-show season kicks off with “Joshua Kane: Borders of the Mind,” an entrancing mentalist show at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 20 in Tilson Auditorium. Kane will display the power of the mind through telepathy, lie-detection and psychic phenomena.

In the ’60s and ’70s, iconic singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot defined a generation. Now, he will serenade audiences, both old and new, in Tilson Auditorium at 8 p.m. Oct. 28. Nominated for five Grammy awards, Lightfoot will take listeners back to those bygone decades of music with his chart-topping hits such as “Early Morning Rain,” “Rainy Day People,” and “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.”

Acrobatics from Cirque Ziva will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 21 in Tilson Auditorium. The premiere Chinese acrobatic group, Golden Dragon, will defy both gravity and nature. Expert contortionists will spin, dance, tumble and balance their way through a dynamic new show.

The timeless rock ’n’ roll classic “Smokey Joe’s Café” hits the Tilson Auditorium stage at 7:30 p.m. March 28. This upbeat musical review will have audiences singing along with classic tunes such as “Jailhouse Rock,” “Love Potion No. 9,” “Stand by Me,” “On Broadway” and more.

The season will close with the family-friendly musical “Beauty and the Beast,” performed by the American Family Theatre at 7:30 p.m. on April 28 in Tilson Auditorium. This award-winning musical offers action, adventure, romance and courage.

The Performing Arts Series gives ISU and the community the opportunity to enjoy world-class entertainment for an affordable price.

Season tickets are on sale now and start at $56. Individual show tickets also are on sale and range from $10-$29 per show. Individual youth tickets are $5. ISU faculty and staff can purchase tickets at a discounted rate, and ISU students are free with valid ID.
