Tickets on sale now for Feb. 1 Soup Bowl Benefit

Tickets are now on sale for the fourth annual Soup Bowl Benefit, an evening of music, conversation, soup and bread happening on Feb. 1 in the Maryland Community Church atrium from 4 to 7:30 p.m.

Maryland Community Church is at 4700 S. Indiana 46 in Terre Haute.

Attendees along with area artists, chefs, sponsors and volunteers come together to support the Terre Haute Catholic Charities Foodbank. “Through a simple bowl of soup,” a press release said, “a spotlight is shone on the issues of hunger in our community, and friends and neighbors are encouraged to share their abundance with those in need. The event has raised more than $47,000 to support the Foodbank.”

Those attending purchase a handmade bowl for $25 and have it filled with soup from area chefs and restaurants. The event will feature two seatings — the first from 4 to 5:30 p.m. and the second from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Seating and handmade bowls are limited.

Tickets are available online at www.catholiccharitiesterre, at the Catholic Charities office or the Terre Haute Deanery Pastoral Center both located at 1801 Poplar St. in Terre Haute or by calling 812-232-1447.

The mission of the Terre Haute Catholic Charities Foodbank is to feed hungry individuals in Clay, Greene, Knox, Parke, Sullivan, Vermillion and Vigo counties through a network of emergency food distribution member agencies. More than 90 food pantries and soup kitchens feed the needy thanks to support from the Foodbank. In 2013, 3 million pounds of food, the equivalent of 2.5 million meals, was distributed to these locations for distribution to the needy.
