‘From … the Wabash to Tin Pan Alley’ Nov. 16

The Indiana Theatre at Seventh and Ohio streets will be the site of “From the Banks of the Wabash to Tin Pan Alley” on Saturday. The program will pay tribute to Paul Dresser, the region’s most famous songwriter and enthusiast for the Wabash River.

A cocktail hour at 6:30 p.m. will include a silent auction featuring a case of specialty wines from the top five leading vineyards in the New England states.

Tom Roznowski will present “Finding the Way Back Home: Two Great Songs About Two Great Rivers” and discuss how Dresser’s “On the Banks of the Wabash, Far Away” and Stephen Foster’s “Swanee River” both reflect the times in which they were written and illuminate the challenges facing people today.

The event is part of the 2013 Year of the River celebration and a continuation of the efforts to preserve Allen Chapel AME Church, which is on the National Register of Historic Places.
