Blues at the Crossroads Festival to go green
Event committee also announces community artwork competition
Special to the Tribune-Star
TERRE HAUTE —
The 2008 Blues at the Crossroads Festival Committee wants a member of the community to create the artwork for this year’s event.
The Blues at the Crossroads Festival is an annual event that showcases some of the Wabash Valley’s most talented blues acts.
In addition to the artwork competition, this year’s event will feature a “Blues Goes Green” theme. Throughout the entire weekend of the blues celebration, all cups and other celebration materials will be made of 100 percent recyclable materials.
Also, Republic Waste Services will be on hand to recycle all discarded materials.
The Blues at the Crossroads Artwork Competition encourages visual artists from the community to submit artwork that they feel could best represent this blues festival.
Acceptable mediums of visual 3-D work include photography, painting, graphic design, drawing, etc.
The winner of the competition will have their image available for all to see on billboards, posters, commercials and the Web site.
Connie Wrin, president of Blues at the Crossroads, wants the community to participate and have ownership of this year’s event.
“We want the community engaged this year,” she said. “What better way than to have a community member provide the artwork for the event.”
The winner of this competition receives more than recognition for their services. The first three recipients, judged by a committee appointed by Blues at the Crossroad, will be awarded cash prizes. First prize receives $350, first runner-up $175 and second runner-up $100.
For more information about the competition or an entry form, contact Jon Robeson at Arts Illiana at (812) 235-5007, or Wrin at info@bluesatthecrossroads.com.
