Rhonda Yochum will be exhibiting her wild horse imagery at Gopalan Contemporary Art this month. Yochum has studied and recorded equine imagery for more than 30 years, experimenting in a wide array of media. More than 25 years ago, after studying with Ansel Adams and Ruth Bernhard, she began to develop different photographic techniques for her subjects, embracing mixed media. She currently uses a digital as well as a 35 mm camera for her wild horse imagery.
Yochum has been fundraising, educating and helping various organizations directly linked to the future of American wild horses. There are approximately 35,000 wild horses in captivity in the United States and only 27,000 roaming free.
A portion of the artist’s proceeds will be donated to the Cloud Foundation and the Pryor Mountain Wild Horse Center in Lovell, Wyo. Yochum is currently working on a book concerning her personal encounters with key individuals guarding “America’s Living Legends.”
Gopalan Contemporary Art, at 9 S. Seventh St. on the Arts Corridor will host an opening reception for artists Yochum and Khaled Haider from 7 to 9 pm. today. The exhibition will be on display through May 31.
Haider, a native of Jordan, will be exhibiting recent interpretive figurative photographs.
Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Visit www.gopalancontemporaryart.com.
