In conjunction with the upcoming visit to Marshall by children’s author and poet Rebecca Kai Dotlich, the Marshall Visiting Author Committee is planning a poetry contest for all ages.
Submit one of these categories of poetry on any subject or theme: rhyme, free verse, sonnet, limerick, haiku and spoken word. Submissions may also include original artwork or original photography. Print submissions in 12- to 14-point font on 81/2-by-11-inch paper in the portrait orientation.
Age categories for the judging will be kindergarten through second grade, third through sixth grade, seventh and eighth grade, ninth through 12th grade, and adults.
Poems may be submitted at Marshall Public Library, Marshall High School, Marshall Junior High School, or either Marshall elementary school. Also also submit entries electronically to poetrycontest@marshall.k12.il.us. The deadline is April 30.
Recognition will be given at Rebecca Kai Dotlichs’ author visit and program May 12 at Marshall Public Library.
