TERRE HAUTE — The River City Art Association and the Vigo County Public Library will feature the work of award-winning painter Monty “Indiana” Jones for the month of December in the library at Seventh and Poplar streets.

Jones says he took up painting as a retirement hobby a few years ago.  After consulting with his good friend and River City co-founder Marty Martinez, he was advised to “paint his passion.”

In other words, he was told to figure out what he was most passionate about, then make that the subject of his art.

One of his loves was wildlife and the associated natural landscapes; he paints a lot of outdoor subjects and scenes.

But he knew his other great passion for race cars, antique autos and all other interesting vehicles, would be great subject matter.

His love for cars is friends who also love to race, restore and collect various types of cars.

He likes to work from photographs along with his memories, many of his favorite coming from his experience at oval dirt track racing shows.

He calls this body of work “Artmobilia,” which includes the art featured here.
