Terre Haute Children’s Choir, Farrington Grove Chorale concert set

The Tribune-Star

TERRE HAUTE The Terre Haute Children’s Choir and the Farrington Grove Chorale will present a Christmas Concert as part of the annual Downtown Holiday Fest at 7 p.m. on Dec. 4 at the First Congregational Church at 630 Ohio St.

The 44-voice Terre Haute Children’s Choir, under the direction of Anita Gamble, is comprised of children ages 9 through 15. The students are outstanding singers from Wabash Valley schools and home-schooled programs. Since 1993, the choir has performed for many community events. The choir rehearses in the Indiana State University Department of Music and will be performing John Rutter’s “Mass of the Children” with the ISU Masterworks Chorale on Dec. 6. The assistant conductor is Jim Hershberger and the pianists are Logan Lundstrom and Kathy Cook.

They will be performing “Adeste Fideles and Ding-A Ding-A Ding by Greg Gilpin, “It’s Time for Hanukkah” by Brownsey and Lantz, “Hodie Christus Natus Est” by Michael Bedford will be sung in Latin, “Beautiful December” by Amy Bernon and “The Dinner Bell Carol” by Susan & Phillip Kern, a humorous arrangement of the ever-popular “Carol of the Bells.”

Many Farrington Grove Chorale members began their singing careers by performing in children’s choirs. The 18-voice community chamber choir is conducted by Ramon E. Meyer. Pianist/organist is Betty B. Meyer. The singers, from Terre Haute and nearby communities, have a lifelong love of choral music and particularly enjoy performing in a small ensemble. Several singers have performed with Meyer in church choirs and ISU’s University Singers.

The hourlong program will be followed by cookies and punch served by the Women’s Guild of the First Congregational Church. There is no charge for admission.
