Fundraising event to support preservation of Allen Chapel

TERRE HAUTE — “An Evening with Las Vegas Legends,” a fundraising event to support the preservation of Terre Haute’s historic Allen Chapel, is Saturday at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology’s Hulman Memorial Union.

Three nights in a Manhattan condo, a day at the White Violet Alpaca Farm and an overnight stay at the Exotic Feline Rescue Center are among the items and others that will be auctioned off during the annual event.

The live and silent auctions also feature items such as a catered luncheon for four hosted by Indiana State University President Dan Bradley and his wife, Cheri, in ISU’s Condit House, a bulldozer driving lesson, a champagne dinner at Sycamore Farms and a moonlight garden design by landscape architect Stephanie Krull.

The evening also will feature entertainment by various “Las Vegas legends,” including Elvis as portrayed by Bruce Borders. Other performers include Kurt Perry as Liberace, Wayman Brown as Fats Domino, SaRetta Brown as Sarah Vaughan, Rachel McClelland as Marilyn Monroe, Earl McClelland as Wayne Newton, JoHonna Brown as Ella Fitzgerald, Diane Burpo as Cher, Rondrell Moore as Sammy Davis Jr., and Josh Hoffman and Tim Hayes as Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis.

The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. with an hors d’oeuvres reception and silent auction followed by a sit-down dinner, a live auction and entertainment.

Allen Chapel, an African Methodist Episcopal Church, is the first African-American church in Terre Haute and the oldest surviving African-American church in western Indiana.

Patron tickets are available for $75 per person. Regular tickets are $55 per person. Corporate and group tables of 10 are available. Donations to the 501(c)(3) non-profit organization also are welcome. Gifts should be made to the Friends of Historic Allen Chapel and mailed to P.O. Box 3682, Terre Haute, IN 47803.
