Terre Haute Stars ready to dance for a cause

The Tribune-Star

TERRE HAUTE The Dancing with the Terre Haute Stars evening gala is Oct. 3 in O’Shaughnessy Hall at St. Mary-of-the-Woods. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

CHANCES for Indiana Youth and First Financial Bank has announced the lineup, which includes:

• Connie Cusick with First Financial Bank dancing the mambo.

• Nancy Brattain-Rogers with Indiana State University dancing the rumba

• Kay Newton from Holiday Inn/Springhill Suites dancing the merengue

• Dana Winklepleck with WTWO dancing the East Coast swing

• Jane Santucci from WTHI dancing the paso doble,

• Mayor Duke Bennett dancing the tango

• Ray Azar with the Vigo County School Corp. dancing the hustle

• Tony Butler from Terre Haute Regional Hospital dancing the samba

• Jeremiah Turner with the Tribune-Star dancing the waltz

• Neil Ward of Medusa’s dancing the cha cha.

Tickets are $50 per person and include hors díoeuvres, silent and live auction, a full dinner and the dance competition.

Each dancing “star” is currently taking 10 hours of instruction and has been paired with a professional dance instructor from The Dance Studio.

Choreography and dance instruction are provided by Barbara Lamb (owner of The Dance Studio) and instructors Vinny Neff, Stephanie Moore and Brandon Halleck.

Watch the Tribune Star for opportunities to vote for your favorite Terre Haute star prior to the event. Votes will also be taken during the event.

Judging the dance competition for the evening will be the Hons. Barbara Brugnaux, Michael Lewis and Chris Newton.

Last year’s event proved to be the premiere event in Terre Haute — raising over $33,000 and was sold out. More than 400 people enjoyed the evening event and were on hand to congratulate Danny Tanoos, superintendent, Vigo County School Corp. as the 2007 Dancing with the Terre Haute stars champion.

Tickets to the event can be bought by calling CHANCES for Indiana Youth at (812) 232-5190.

All proceeds from this event will go to support drug and alcohol prevention programming for youth in Terre Haute and throughout the Wabash Valley.
