Turkey Run hosts Archaeology Day

Dust off those arrowheads, spear points and stone axes and bring them to Turkey Run State Park this Saturday. An archaeologist from the Department of Natural Resources will be on hand to tell you all about stone tools: their origins, their uses, and how they were made.

While you’re there, try your hand at prehistoric life skills. Launch a spear with an atlatl, make a dream catcher or medicine bag, have a petroglyph painted on your face, or make a piece of jewelry from plant fibers. These and other activities will help participants understand what life was like during prehistoric times.

Activities will take place between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. in front of the nature center. There is no charge for this event, although standard gate fees apply: $5/car for Indiana residents, and $7/car for nonresidents.
