Guild honors watercolorist as July Artist of the Month

The Tribune-Star

The Wabash Valley Art Guild is honoring Bill Bolz as July’s Artist of the Month.

A relatively new member of The Wabash Valley Art Guild, Bolz has made many contributions to the Valley with his art. He has many works on display, including his work in the Covered Bridge Art Association Gallery in Rockville. Bolz has sent many paintings to the CBAA Gallery for the past four years, and won Artist of the Year in 2007.

Bolz, a resident of Rocky Fork Lake since 2000, has also had his work appear in the Covered Bridge Guide and has won numerous shows at the CBAA Gallery and juried art exhibits around northwest Indiana.

A retired project manager for U.S. Steel, Bolz has been working as a consultant for Capital Engineering in Hammond. He and his wife spend as much time as they can at their lake residence near Rocky Fork Lake, where Bolz teaches watercolor classes at least once a year.

Bolz’s preferred medium is watercolor. Most of his subjects are of country landscapes, portraits, and the many awe-inspiring covered bridges in the Wabash Valley area.

Bolz has studied under watercolorists Nita Engle, Mike Capser and Janet Rogers. His favorite classic artists are Monet, Renoir and Michelangelo. Bolz’s favorite contemporary artists are David Leffel and Andrew Wyeth.

If you would like to learn more about Bill Bolz, or any of the other artists from The Wabash Valley Art Guild, visit www.wabashvalleyartguild.org.

The Guild meets the second Thursday of every month in the Vigo County Public Library. Contact wabashvalleyartguild@gmail.com for more information on meeting times and dates.
