Motorcycle Club’s ‘Spring Out Ride’ set


Wabash Valley Motorcycle Club will stage its “Spring Out Ride” on May 17, with sign-in 10 to 11 a.m. in Ambrosini’s, with a donation of $10 per person.

The ride is 100 miles with last bike in at 4 p.m. at the Rosedale American Legion. A band and food is included at the last stop. Call (812) 533-1024 for more information.

The club’s Benefit Ride for St. Ann’s Clinic is June 28. Sign-in will be 10 to 11 a.m. at Ambrosini’s, with a donation of $10 per person. All proceeds go to St. Ann’s, a free clinic for anyone who qualifies from Vigo and surrounding counties. Last bike in will be at 4 p.m. at the Fraternal Order of Police club. Churches to hand out literature at mall


The Greater Terre Haute Church Federation’s Annual Community Focus is 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday in Honey Creek Mall.

Churches and service organizations will be at tables, handing out literature, or presenting music.

Groups that have been a part of the Community Focus before include The Caring Center, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, The WILL Center, House of Hope, The Crossroad Connection (Gary’s Place), Community Christian Counseling, Urban Connection, WPFR Radio, Goodwill Industries, Union Hospital Chaplains Office, Christian Counseling, Crossroads of American Boy Scouts, Covered Bridge Girl Scouts, The Lighthouse Mission, Bond Slaves for Christ, Church of Living Christ, Terre Haute Church of God, St. Mark’s United Church of Christ, Right at Home, The Gideons, The Dream Center, The Connection Center, Agape Christian Church, Christ Lutheran Church, The Helping Hands, Church of God Terre Haute, Terre Haute Apartment Association and Salvation Army.

Jazz Big Band Dinner/Dance today


The annual Jazz Big Band Dinner/Dance is 6:30 to 10 p.m. today in the Girl Scouts building in Fairbanks Park.

Big band music of the 1930s and 1940s is featured — Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Duke Ellington.

The $10 ticket covers great Italian food (lasagna, salads, breadsticks, dessert).

Free swing dance lessons are at 6:30.

Fowler re-enactment set for May 17


The first “Saturday at Fowler” event of the summer will be presented 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 17 in Fowler Park in southern Vigo County.

Volunteers of the Fowler Village Folk will re-enact everyday life in an early 1800s log cabin village. Future dates are June 21, July 19, Aug. 16 and Sept. 20.

The park is on Oregon Church Road, one mile east of U.S. 41.

‘All My Sons’ auditions coming up


Auditions have been slated for the drama “All My Sons,” presented by Putnam County Playhouse in July.

Director Jack Randall Earles will have two sessions to find the cast for the show: 3 p.m. May 18 and 7 p.m. May 19, both in the Rehearsal Center at the Hazel Day Longden Theatre in Greencastle. The show runs July 10-12 and July 16-19.

Leading roles include Joe Keller, a man age 50 or older; his wife Kate; their son Chris and his fiance Ann, both in their 20s; their friends Jim and Sue Bayliss; neighbors Frank and Lydia Lubey; George, who is Ann’s brother; and a young boy, Bert. All those auditioning will be asked to read from the script.

Borders to perform Mother’s Day concert


Bruce Borders and his City Council Band will perform a special Mother’s Day concert on Saturday in the group camp dining hall at Shakamak State Park.

The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Borders has been featured on David Letterman, Oprah Winfrey, Joan Rivers, Entertainment Tonight, Fox TV, CBS Worldwide News and many other TV shows. Fox News is currently filming Borders for a feature to be aired soon.

Borders has opened for many stars, including Loretta Lynn, Willie Nelson, Conway Twitty and Debbie Boone. He performed a tour of the U.S. Virgin Islands with radio personality Wolfman Jack.

Tickets for the concert are $10 and will be sold at the door. Tickets also are available at Borders Insurance in Jasonville by calling (812) 665-9318.



Ty-N-The Tones salute Buddy Holly


Ty Shultz and Ty-N-The Tones will present a salute to the late great Buddy Holly at 7 p.m. Saturday in Boot City Opry on South U.S. 41.

Schultz is well known for his Buddy Holly tribute throughout the United States, including performances on Las Vegas stages.

Although having a relatively short career before his untimely death in the late ’50s, Holly was recognized as one of the most influential creative forces in early rock ’n‘ roll music. Holly’s greatest No. 1 hit was the everlasting “That’ll be the Day.”
