Arts Illiana announces BRAVO! Awards

Arts Illiana has announced the 2007-2008 BRAVO! THE ARTS! Award recipients. Each year individuals, organizations, and/or businesses are recognized for their outstanding contribution to the arts in the Wabash Valley. This year the awards reception and ceremony will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. May 16 at the Indiana State University Center for Performing and Fine Arts, at Seventh and Chestnut streets.
This year the Arts Educator award goes to Nancy Nichols-Pethick, ISU Art Department faculty member. Brent McPike, ISU Music Faculty member and Terre Haute musician, will receive the Professional Artist award. Clabber Girl will receive the Corporate Award. Betty Martin will receive the Advocacy Award, honoring her long-standing support of the arts in the Wabash Valley. Xavier Ellison, a Terre Haute North Vigo High School senior who will be pursuing a career in dance beginning this fall at Butler University, will receive the Youth Achievement Award. The Swope Alliance will receive the volunteer service award, and Dick Hay, retired professor of Art at Indiana State University and nationally known artist, will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award.
This year marks the 14th anniversary of the BRAVO! Awards.
The reception will be from 6 to 7 p.m. in the atrium of the Performing and Fine Arts Center, complete with cash bar and hors d’oeuvres. Attendees can also enjoy a special showing of ISU art students’ work in the gallery. Harriet Thompson Moore, harpist, will provide music for the reception. The awards ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Center for Performing and Fine Arts. This year’s professional artist award recipient, McPike, will perform. The event is free.
