The Greene County Master Gardeners Association will host its annual Flower and Patio Show, “Welcome to Our Potting Shed” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Greene County 4-H Fairgrounds.
Carolyn Murdock and Lynn Tucker, co-chairmen, have worked since January putting this event together. Shop for flowers, herbs, heirloom plants, trees, shrubs, organic garden supplies, garden art, antiques, accessories, lawn equipment and much more, available from 23 vendors. The Master Gardeners’ plant booth is always a popular spot along with the Greene County Extension Homemakers’ bake sale.
As usual, a children’s area will be available. They will have the opportunity to plant something. Free trees from the Indiana Forestry Department will be given away to attendees. Three scholarships for 2009 Master Gardener classes will be drawn and given away. The classes run January through April from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. each Thursday. The class begins at 6 with a pitch-in meal, which makes it nice for people who come directly from work.
This year, more demonstrations have been added to the event, because education is a large part of the Purdue Master Gardener Program.
Hypertufa is like stone, but is made from peat moss, perlite and concrete with reinforcement fibers. Breece makes everything from plant containers to yard art and bird baths.
Enjoy sandwiches and homemade deserts available from the Happy Workers Home Ec. Club while listening to one of the demonstrations. Sunday lunch is choice of Italian rice casserole with garlic bread or chicken casserole w/ roll, green salad, corn, drink and dessert for $5. Carry-outs are available.
