High Ground Men’s Chorus concert set
The 10-member High Ground Men’s A Cappella Chorus will present a concert at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in Central Presbyterian Church at 125 N. Seventh St.
The chorus specializes in spirituals but has a wide repertoire of music and is directed by Central Presbyterian organist Gary Jenkins.
The program is part of the Alfred R. Schmidt Concert Series.
Spaghetti dinner set at Masonic Lodge
An All-You-Can-Eat Spaghetti Dinner is scheduled 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at William Penn Masonic Lodge 727, at 2215 Garfield Ave., across from Garfield Towers.
The cost is $6.50 for adults, $3.50 for children; and free for children under 3. Dinner includes spaghetti, salad, Italian bread and a beverage.

Mountain Man Rendezvous is Saturday
Bridgeton is the site for the 16th annual Mountain Man Rendezvous on Saturday and Sunday.
Sample authentic pre-1840s living in an old-time town. See trading posts, live black powder muzzle-loader shooting and knife and tomahawk throwing Saturday and Sunday. Primitive bow shoot and a canoe race on Saturday only. No admission charges to any of these events. Join the Bridgeton Volunteer Fire Department for a Jonah Fish Fry from 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday. The shops are open and new businesses have opened in town. There are activities for all ages.

Car show, wash at McLean High School
McLean High School at 961 Lafayette Ave. will have a Car Show and Car Wash from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 3, sponsored by Audio Plus, Z-Tech and Big O Tires.
The entry fee for the Car Show is $10, for Sound-off is $5, and a car wash is $5 (excessive dirt and trailers are extra). To register, call (812) 462-4330 (daytime), or (812) 208-9246 (nighttime).
Other activities include face painting and the Humane Society-Adopt a Pet. There also will be concessions available. Proceeds go to benefit Union Hospital’s pediatrics unit.
Young audiences to ‘rock’ at Dixie Bee
The Emmy Award-winning 1970s Saturday morning cartoon series that taught history, grammar, math, science and politics through clever, tuneful songs will appear live on stage at Dixie Bee Elementary School on Tuesday.
The Grade 3 musical presentation of “Schoolhouse Rock Live! Junior” at 1:30 and 7 p.m. is part of the school’s Spring Fine Arts Night, along with the Grade 5 String Orchestra and selected young solo performers. There is no charge for admission.
“Schoolhouse Rock Live! Junior” introduces a whole new generation to the beloved Schoolhouse Rock songs “Preamble to the Constitution,” “Three is a Magic Number," and “Interplanet Janet,” and “Interjections.” Children just discovering the pop-culture phenomenon and Generation X-ers seeking a taste of nostalgia alike will appreciate the show.

Pioneer City Flea Market kicks off
A new outdoor flea market has opened in Palestine, Ill.
Access to Pioneer City Flea Market is free to vendors and shoppers alike. It starts the first Friday evening of each month and runs all day Saturday, just off Main Street in downtown.
Call Larry at (618) 586-2616 for dealer information. There will be sidewalk sales by many Palestine merchants.
A free outdoor “sit-in” movie will be shown on the first Friday of every month on Main Street. All movies are family-friendly and are shown on a big screen at dusk throughout the summer and fall. Free-will donations accepted; popcorn and drinks available.
May 2 – “Happy Gilmore” (experience the very first Pioneer City Flea Market)
June 6 – “Arsenic and Old Lace” (follows the melodrama during Betsey Reed Festival)

Randle to perform benefit concert
It’s been five years since Nashville singer-songwriter Roxie Randle performed in her home state of Illinois.
But a special event in her hometown of Hutsonville will bring her back. On May 3, Randle and her band will perform in a benefit concert in the Hutsonville High School gymnasium. The event will help Libby and Steve Mehler with medical expenses incurred from Steve’s cancer treatments in a research hospital in Little Rock, Ark. Libby Mehler was Randle’s kindergarten teacher 25 years ago.
The May 3 concert includes a spaghetti dinner at 5 p.m. Music will follow at 7, along with a silent auction.
Strassenfest continues through Saturday
Live music and the aroma of brats on the grill from the 31st Strassenfest will continue to fill the air in downtown Terre Haute today and Saturday. Admission is free to the annual event at the Clabber Girl Festival Marketplace at Ninth and Cherry streets.
Members of the German Oberlandler Club, hosts of this German-American festival, will serve German and American food and beverages beginning at 11 a.m. each day. Take-out food will be available. Guests must be age 21 or older to enter the beer garden.
The Jay Fox Bavarian Showtime Band from Fort Wayne and the Steve Meisner Band from Whitewater, Wis., will provide continuous music for listening and dancing from 4 p.m. until midnight.
