Allsup defeats Royer in Vigo Recorder race

Tribune-Star staff report

In a night that was friendly to Democrats, Nancy Allsup won the office of Vigo County Recorder, defeating Republican Bruce Royer.

Allsup, with 26,486 votes, or 65 percent, celebrated her victory Tuesday night with friends and family at the Paradise Pavilion in West Terre Haute.

All figures are unofficial election results from the Vigo County Clerk’s office.

Allsup said, “I’m feeling wonderful. My mouth hurts from smiling so much!”

“I just promise I’ll do a good job as recorder,” she added.

Allsup is completing the term of former Recorder Ray Watts, who resigned in June.

Allsup said she attributed her win to her friends and family and said she wanted to thank Vigo County.

“I don’t know what I’d do without them,” she said.

Royer, who earned 14,049 votes, or 35 percent, said, “When you look at what happened to the Republican Party in Vigo County, you can see what happened nationally.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to campaign with,” Royer added. “They were wonderful, the people were wonderful, it just didn’t work out this time.”

“I want to congratulate my opponent for her win,” he said. “Yes, I’m disappointed, but there is always the next time.”
