ISU to present March 28 Spring Choral Concert

Indiana State University’s Spring Choral Showcase Concert will provide patrons a preview to a program destined for the Big Apple. The concert, set for 7:30 p.m. Friday in the University Hall Theater, will feature the Women’s Choir, Sycamore Singers and Concert Choir.

The Concert Choir, under the direction of Scott Buchanan, will perform a diverse program of works that are both sacred and secular in nature. The ensemble will perform works such as “Praise to the Lord,” “In Remembrance,” “Blow Ye the Trumpet” and “Rockin’ Jerusalem.”

Larysa Tudorica will serve as the accompanist. Sean Carey will be a featured instrumentalist on “In Remembrance” and Marcel Mello will be the student conductor for “Blow Ye the Trumpet.”

These selections, along with many others, will be performed by members of the Concert Choir during an upcoming performance April 12 in New York City’s Lincoln Center.

“Twenty-three Indiana State students will sing alongside 80 other students from three Indiana high school choirs — including Terre Haute South’s Chamber Choir — as part of a mass choir that I have the privilege to conduct,” Buchanan said.

The Women’s Choir, under the direction of Colleen Davis, will perform works by Vivaldi, DeBussy, Applebaum and Farnell. Andrea Marlowe serves as the accompanist for the ensemble and Katie McDonald, Colton Cox and Thomas Devenport will be featured instrumentalists.

The Sycamore Singers will open the concert with well-known classics such as “Sh-Boom (Life Could be a Dream),” “I’ll Stand By You,” “Lullaby of Birdland,” “It Don’t Mean a Thing,” “Waiting on the World to Change” and “Why Do Fools Fall in Love?”

Tudorica serves as the accompanist. Caitlin Barnaby, Kailey Turner, Alanna Mossell, Ashley Beadle and Trenton Baker will be featured soloists.

Admission is free. For more information, contact the School of Music at 812-237-2771 or the Choral Office at 812-237-4590.
