TERRE HAUTE —
Robby Ort celebrated his Indiana State baseball Senior Day on Saturday by becoming the Sycamores’ all-time leader in RBIs as ISU ended its regular season with a 16-7 win over Bradley at Bob Warn Field.
The Sycamores will take a 24-23 record into Missouri Valley Conference tournament play. Their 9-11 conference record makes them the sixth seed, and they’ll play third-seeded Creighton at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Illinois State.
Bradley finished 17-30 overall, 2-19 in conference games.
Ort had five RBIs for the day, enabling him to pass Boi Rodriguez for the ISU career mark. He got two of them on a single in the fourth inning, when ISU scored a season-high eight runs in the inning for a 10-0 lead, and added a three-run homer after the Braves had closed the gap to 10-7.
Three Bradley errors and a two-run double by Connor McClain put the home team ahead 2-0 in the second inning, and the fourth-inning explosion also included a third RBI by McClain and two-run singles by Taylor Shaw and Casey McCurdy.
A grand slam by Austin Bunch helped Bradley score all its runs in the top of the fifth, but Ort’s three-run blast in the bottom of the inning restored order and enabled him to pass Rodriguez. Ort now has 201, Rodriguez had 200 while playing from 1985 through 1987.
Koby Kraemer wrapped up the scoring with a two-run homer in the seventh.
It was ISU’s first Senior Day win since 2009 and was led by several players in their last game at Sycamore Stadium — McCurdy (3 for 3), Ort (3 for 5), Kraemer (2 for 4) and Jordan Pearson (2 for 4).
Tyler Pazik was winning pitcher in relief.
