Metro Roundup: Indiana State’s Shakir Bell on Performance Awards watch list

TERRE HAUTE — College Football Performance Awards has announced its watch list for the 2013 CFPA FCS Running Back Award, and Indiana State’s Shakir Bell earned a spot on the list.

The preliminary watch list highlights thirty-three returning performers, vying for the top individual running back honor in the Football Championship Subdivision.

Bell is the first Indiana State player named to the 2013 CFPA Watch List. He is one of two Indiana State players to earn CFPA annual honors, the other being defensive back Johnny Towalid.

Baseball

• Rose hosts Division III regional — Winners of the last three NCAA Division III national baseball championships will be at Rose-Hulman this week for regional competition.

Illinois Wesleyan, which won in 2010, and Marietta, champion the last two seasons, are in the eight-team field that begins play Wednesday at Art Nehf Field.

Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference champion Manchester is the top seed with a 35-5-1 record. Others in the field are the College of Wooster, Washington & Jefferson, Thomas More, Penn State-Behrend and Mount Union.
