  • Large paydays coming ISU football's way
It’s a reality every Football Championship Subdivision team has to face … the money game. Nearly every FCS school plays at least one Football Bowl Subdivision team. The reason is twofold: the exposure of playing up against the “big” schools, but more importantly, it’s the money. The dollars made from the monetary guarantee paid out by much-wealthier FBS schools goes a long way toward sustaining FCS teams.

  • Florida guard says she'll play for ISU women's basketball
Billy Carson knew he had a good point guard in Illyssa Vivo and the South Florida Lady Jaguars’ AAU coach had a plan to land her somewhere in the Division I women’s basketball ranks. His plan ultimately took Vivo from sunny Broward County, Fla., to Vigo County. Carson confirmed that Vivo has made a verbal commitment to play basketball at Indiana State.

  • Hutson advances at NCAA meet; Moore begins heptathlon competition
Indiana State junior Kylie Hutson advanced to the finals of the women’s pole vault at the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship late Wednesday night, marking the second straight year that the Sycamore has reached the final round at the NCAA Championship.

  • TH native Phegley selected 38th in MLB draft by Chicago White Sox
After being taken as the second catcher overall and the 38th pick in the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft on Tuesday, Josh Phegley — a Terre Haute resident — is now the highest draft pick to hail from the Wabash Valley.

  • ISU men's basketball's Doluony, Lathan hone game-skills
Indiana State’s Koang Doluony and Dwayne Lathan hadn’t played a competitive game in more than a calendar year. Doluony because he was redshirted, Lathan because he had to sit out a year after transferring to ISU from Louisiana Tech.

  • College Report: Lincoln Trail softball turns to Indiana prep talent
Lincoln Trail College is going through a rebuilding phase in its softball program, with only two players returning from this year’s team. Coach Rachael Killinger has turned to the Indiana side of the Wabash Valley for a pair of components to start that process, as Terre Haute South grad Tiffany Fendrick and North Central grad Siona Taft have signed to play for the Lady Statesmen.

  • College Report: Vicars, Woods land at Alcorn State
Two longtime Wabash Valley baseball teammates from many past stops together have reunited once again, as Terre Haute South grads Cole Vicars and Bobby Woods have both signed letters-of-intent to continue their careers at Division I Alcorn State in Lorman, Miss.

  • ISU baseball swept out of Wichita
When the Indiana State baseball team entered the Missouri Valley Conference Baseball Tournament, the Sycamores had high hopes of contending for a NCAA Tournament bid, or at the very least, to play for the conference championship.

  • TODD GOLDEN: Optimism is legacy left by ISU seniors
There’s no way, shape or form that anyone who saw Indiana State’s baseball team in its Sycamore Field finale on May 10 would have said to themselves, “This isn’t going to end well.”
