Boys basketball roundup: Linton coasts to Greene County Invitational title

Linton jumped to an eight-point lead after one quarter and coasted to a 51-35 victory in the championship game of the boys high school basketball Greene County Invitational on Saturday.
Caleb Dunkerly led the winning Miners with 17 points — including five from beyond the 3-point arc.
Andrew Gilman led the Thunderbirds with only nine points.
Clay City and Eastern posted consolation victories in earlier GCI action.
Clay City controlled the first contest to defeat the host White River Valley Wolverines 47-39.
The Eels improved to 5-3 with their first tournament victory. They had an 18-15 lead at halftime, were up 31-21 after three periods and held off WRV at the finish.
Garrett Thatcher led the winners with 17 points. Ryan Karr had 17 for the Wolverines and Cody Lafever notched 11.
Both teams have home games Tuesday. Clay City (5-3) faces South Putnam; WRV (0-11) meets North Knox.
Eastern rallied to defeat Shakamak 40-33, outscoring the Lakers 19-8 in the final period.
Shakamak (5-4) had quarterly leads of 11-8, 19-12 and 25-21.

Trent Fox’s 3-pointer at the buzzer was off the mark for the Panthers.
Senior Tyler Morgan scored a game-high 18 points for RP to become the school’s all-time leader in scoring. The 6-foot-5 forward has 1,111 points in his career, overtaking Chad Busenbark, who set the previous mark in 2000.
