ISU Leader in Action Series begins with insurance and risk management presenter
Special to the Tribune-Star
Mark Henderson, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Lockton Companies LLC, will be Indiana State University’s first Leader in Action Series presenter for insurance and risk management, on Tuesday and Wednesday.
LIA events are sponsored by the College of Business’ insurance and risk management program and the Gongaware Center.
Henderson will make a presentation to students at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday as part of a capstone insurance and risk management course. This presentation, open to the general public, is in Room 105 of the College of Business.
After his classroom presentation, he will participate in a reception, dinner and presentation with members of Gamma Iota Sigma (the ISU chapter of the national collegiate actuarial, insurance and risk management society) in ISU’s Hulman Memorial Student Union.
The LIA Series was created as a result of the insurance and risk management program and Gongaware Center’s recent designation as one of only two Programs of National Distinction at ISU.
It is designed to bring top industry executives and leaders in insurance to campus to share their time and talents with students, faculty and the community, said Mary Ann Boose, professor and program coordinator for the IRM program at ISU.
“These exchanges build long-term bridges with our industry partners, which will, in turn, provide timely, cutting-edge education for our students and countless opportunities for those students and the company representatives to network.”
Lockton is the world’s largest privately held insurance broker.
The company has 3,700 risk professionals in 18 offices in the United States, plus 31 international offices in 10 countries. Lockton’s London office recently hosted a group of ISU students over spring break as part of the INS 449 class on surplus lines.
The company also has supported and attended several university functions such as the IRM program’s Oktoberfest Golf Outing, which raises money for IRM student scholarships, and the Gamma Iota Sigma Career Expo.
Lockton also has shown great support and trust in the IRM program by hiring many ISU student interns and graduates for full-time employment.
In fact, this is the first year that ISU has had as many as four students involved in summer internships with Lockton.
“We believe this is a direct result of the exposure to Indiana State University that the Leaders in Action Series is already providing,” Boose said.
