Scholar to speak on entrepreneurship

GREENCASTLE — Dr. Jun Yang, a Fulbright Scholar from China, will present his views on entrepreneurship and business start-ups in America and China during two presentations on Thursday in Greencastle.

The first presentation is at 1 p.m. at the Greencastle campus of Ivy Tech Community College, 915 S. Zinc Mill Road. The second presentation is at 4 p.m. in the Watson Forum in the Eugene S. Pulliam Center for Contemporary Media on the DePauw University campus, 609 S. Locust St. Both appearances are free and open to the public.

Dr. Yang, a visiting faculty member from the Ivy Tech Community College South Bend campus, has spent the 2013 academic year teaching introduction to business and marketing classes.

In addition, he has spent time researching entrepreneurship in the United States. He will share his experiences and discuss what he has learned while visiting our country.

He is an associate professor in the Business School at the University of Nankai in China and the author of several papers published in academic journals.

His specialties include new venture strategies and entrepreneurial opportunities.

“As part of our mission, we strive to prepare students for the business world, including business practices outside the United States. We are fortunate to have Dr. Yang speak with our students and the Greencastle community, to share his experiences in entrepreneurship and the far reaching affect we can have on today’s economy,” said Becky Miller, interim vice chancellor for the Greencastle campus.

The Business and Entrepreneurial Services Center at Ivy Tech Community College in Greencastle and the DePauw McDermond Center for Management and Entrepreneurship have partnered to bring Dr. Yang to Greencastle.

“Ivy Tech Community College, DePauw University and the City of Greencastle have developing partnerships with communities, education and businesses in China,” observed Ken Eitel, director of the BES Center. “We are pleased with the offer of the South Bend leadership at Ivy Tech to share Dr. Yang with our community and further strengthen our knowledge of China’s business communities.”
