Physical therapy practice opens in Brazil

TERRE HAUTE — The Hand and Orthopedic Rehab Clinic has opened a location in Brazil. The orthopedic physical therapy clinic has been providing specialized care to its patients in Terre Haute for the last nine years.

 It is the only clinic in Terre Haute and now in Brazil that is staffed by full-time fellowship trained and board certified hand therapists, who specialize in treating the orthopedic shoulder, elbow and the hand complex.

Ashim Bakshi, MHS, OTR/L, CHT clinic owner and partner has more than 18 years of experience as an occupational therapist with specialization in upper extremity orthopedic rehabilitation.

The Brazil clinic also will provide expanded physical therapy services for the spine and the lower extremity. Ewa Gasiorowski PT, director of physical therapy, has more than 20 years of experience as a practicing physical therapist. She has a special interest in treating the orthopedic spine, the hip and the knee, both conservatively and post surgically.

Gasiorowski specializes in vestibular rehabilitation, fall prevention, manual therapy and muscle energy techniques, and has devised specialized programs as part of the physical therapy management, to facilitate the return to work of the injured worker.

The clinic’s therapists specialize in:

• sports injury management — spinal rehab,

• post surgical rehabilitation — arthritis,

• industrial rehabilitation/ workers’ compensation — fall prevention,

• shoulder rehabilitation — Vestibular Rehab,

• custom splinting,

• elbow wrist and hand management, and

• hip and knee management.
