U.S. Postal Service opens village office in Worthington

TERRE HAUTE — The U.S. Postal Service officially opened the 40th Village Post Office in the Greater Indiana District on Monday in Worthington.

Tim Wright has owned the Worthington store for the past six years.

“I wanted to open a VPO to add more convenience and service to our customers. We’re a small, farming community, and customers can come in and pick up a book of stamps or the flat-rate Priority Mail throughout the day,” he said.

The store is open every day from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The new postal center was officially opened by Cindy Klaiber, USPS manager of Post Office Operations. The ribbon-cutting ceremony took place at 2 p.m., and an open house followed until 3 p.m.

In 2011, the Postal Service started the VPO model as an alternate retail location for postal products and services, especially in rural communities.

VPOs are operated by local businesses contracting with USPS, and offer products and services, including stamps and flat-rate packaging.
