Carrie Green is the new district coordinator/educator for West Central Indiana Watershed Alliance, sponsored by the Sullivan County Soil and Water Conservation District.

Carrie has never been far from farms and outdoor activities, having grown up in Terre Haute and being a current resident of Riley.

“Coming from a family of farmers in southern Indiana, I have always been interested in agriculture and the use of natural resources,” she said.

Green enjoys hunting, fishing, gardening and woodworking. She is also a past 4-H member who now supports her daughter in showing horses and dairy cattle.

After studying chemistry and business administration at Indiana State University, Green garnered experience at Environmental Certification Labs, Inc., in Farmersburg, where she performed a wide range of tasks over six years. In this position, she learned the importance of water quality and how it can be negatively impacted.

Her proficient experience with water monitoring, calibrating lab equipment and sample analysis will benefit the WCIWA’s program. In addition to ongoing quarterly sampling on more than 40 sites in the Busseron Creek Watershed, the Turtle Creek, Turman Creek and Kelly Bayou (TTK) 319 grant is expected to add monthly sampling of at least half as many sites to the monitoring schedule next year.

Green will continue to promote past SWCD programs, such as Operation Medicine Cabinet and the Eighth Grade Wabash River Expedition, as well as ongoing support for the NRCS and WCIWA cost-share programs.
