Indiana Sens. Vaneta Becker, R-Evansville, and Tim Skinner, D-Terre Haute, were honored Thursday for their support of public schools by the Indiana Coalition for Public Education.

“Senators Skinner and Becker have worked in a bipartisan fashion to improve the opportunities for students enrolled in our public schools,” said Vic Smith, ICPE chairman. “They have worked tirelessly to ensure public schools have an advocate in their respective party caucuses at a time when privatization policies and voucher legislation are having a negative impact on public schools and school funding. These public servants deserve to be honored on behalf of the one million children who attend Indiana’s public schools.”

The number of Vectren customers using live web chat for online customer service assistance is on the rise. With the increasing number of customers using the new communication channel, the company reached a customer service milestone in late August by surpassing 10,000 live-chat sessions.

“When we launched the new service feature, our customer service specialists communicated with about 40 customers per day through live chat,” said Doug Petitt, Vectren’s chief information officer and vice president of information technology and customer service. “Now, our customer service specialists are reaching 150 to 200 customers per day through live chat as a growing number of customers prefer this option over a phone call. We expect this communication channel to continue to grow given we recently made the chat feature available for smartphones.”

Launched in March 2013, the service feature allows Vectren customers to communicate with customer service specialists via live chat through a computer, tablet or mobile device between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
