TERRE HAUTE — The Human Resources Center of Edgar and Clark counties in Illinois welcomes new substance abuse prevention specialists Amy Delashmit and Akasha Green.

Delashmit is a 2005 graduate of Indiana State University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and minor in criminology. She has worked in various capacities within social services including case management, service coordination and direct service within the Indianapolis area, as well as the Terre Haute area. Delashmit has also worked with youth in summer programs and residential placements, including the Edgar County Children’s home. She grew up in Edgar County and is excited to become reconnected with the schools she attended during her youth.

After graduating from Indiana State University in May with a degree in human development and family studies, Green sought employment with a  nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the health and well-being of youth.

Now, she will help bring substance abuse prevention programs to Clark and Edgar counties. She has served in the Special Olympics, Big Brother Big Sisters, Ryves Hall Youth Center and McMillan Adult Day Service.

HRC Prevention will teach Life Skills and Project Alert classes to middle school students in both counties. Both programs are evidence-based model substance abuse prevention curricula that are educational and fun. Prevention will also work with schools on developing mentoring programs and developing a summer program for middle school students.

The department also facilitates meetings of the community substance abuse prevention coalition CAMA, Inc. All are welcome to join us at the upcoming Prevention Provider’s Breakfast from 7:30 to 9 a.m. on Wednesday at HRC’s Café France (118 E. Court St., in Paris). Featured speakers from the Body Electric Coalition will highlight results from the 2012 Illinois Youth Survey.

To RSVP call Green at 217-465-4118, ext. 215 or email, or call Delashmit at 217-465-4118 ext. 286 or email amy.delashmit@
