Brandy Candler, assistant director of admission at Ivy Tech Community College in Terre Haute, was elected coordinator of the Presidents Council and board director of the National Association for College Admission Counseling at the organization’s 69th national conference in Toronto. Nearly 5,000 admission counseling professionals gathered Sept. 19-21 for the group’s first international meeting to discuss counseling trends, research and programming, and to elect new members to its 15-member board.

Candler has been a member of NACAC since 1998 and will serve a three-year presidential term for the Indiana Association for College Admission Counseling, one of the NACAC’s 23 affiliates. She is a delegate to the NACAC Assembly and a member of the IACAC Professional Development Committee and IACAC Congress. As assistant admission director at Ivy Tech, she recruits students at 17 Indiana high schools and five high schools in Illinois, coordinating campus visits, and events and competitions for local middle and high school students.

She formerly worked as an admission counselor at Indiana State University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in communications studies.

Chad Cates has joined Sycamore Insurance Associates LLC as a vice president and producer, specializing in commercial property and casualty accounts, primarily in the healthcare, social service, manufacturing and agricultural industries.

Cates has worked in the insurance industry for 10 years, with all of his experience having been with a large local agency. He works directly with customers to develop appropriate risk management strategies that are tailored to their specific needs. He has assisted employers in setting up partially and fully self-insured workers’ compensation programs and takes a proactive approach when working with his customers.  

He graduated from Indiana State University with majors in insurance and risk management, and business administration. Cates holds licenses in property and casualty, and life and health insurance, in Indiana and Illinois.

Garmong Construction recently hired Evan Myers as a part-time intern. Myers is a senior at Indiana State University. He’s majoring in athletic training with a minor in massage therapy. In addition, he works in the Indiana State University Admissions Office and as Sycamore Sam.

Garmong also recently hired Mark Merrill as a project engineer. Merrill earned a bachelor’s degree in construction management with a minor in occupational health and safety from Indiana State University in 2013.

He is currently serving in the United States Marine Corps Reserves as a combat engineer.

The company recently hired Matt Nickel as a project manager. He has more than nine years of experience in the construction industry.

Nickel earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical technology from Indiana State University in 2004.

The company also hired Tammy Cheatham as an administrative assistant in accounting. She has more than 21 years of experience in the construction industry, Cheatham earned a certificate in accounting from Ivy Tech Community College.

Nicole Moyer has been promoted to manager of marketing and office administration. In this capacity, she is responsible for all day-to-day staffing, general decisions, scheduling and staffing support relative to marketing, business development, office administration and IT.
