Ripley’s opens in former Dawg House

TERRE HAUTE — Ripley’s Bar and Grill at Ninth and Oak streets offers patrons a new place for entertainment in downtown Terre Haute.

A short time after the Dawg House closed in 2010, the building was purchased by Sonya Doty and Ken Hess, Jr.

“Terre Haute didn’t really have a ‘dub’ that provided a large stage for some of the bigger local bands to play on,” Hess said. “Being a fan of live music, I wanted to create a place that people could come out, let their hair down, and have plenty of room to dance without sacrificing the space for the bands. Ripley’s has just that.”

In addition to all new carpet, newly painted walls, a new, larger bar area, and enhanced lighting, Ripley’s also added a new pool table and juke box.

Although food is not currently being served, Doty said the business is planning to add the feature soon. Planned menu items include daily entree specials, a salad bar and sandwiches.

With seven bartenders, daily drink specials, a wide variety of bottled beer and spirits, as well as a selection of 12 beers on tap, Ripley’s also boasts one of the largest stages in downtown Terre Haute. Hours of operation are seven days a week, 3 p.m. to 3 a.m.
