ON THE MOVE: Sept. 9, 2012

Paris Community Hospital/Family Medical Center welcomes John Nadeau, DO, general surgeon, to its medical staff. Originally from Maine and now a Paris resident, Dr. Nadeau is looking forward to providing residents of Edgar County and surrounding communities with comprehensive surgical services.

“I want to live and practice in a small community,” said Dr. Nadeau. “Paris is very similar to where I am from. I like small communities where people get to know each other.”

Dr. Nadeau comes to PCH/FMC from Sierra Vista Regional Health Center in Arizona, an 88-bed, not-for-profit hospital, where he was a general surgeon and chair of the surgery department.

“This is a perfect fit for Dr. Nadeau, our hospital, and our community,” said Randy Simmons, PCH/FMC president and CEO. “We are very fortunate to have a surgeon with his expertise in our community.”

Dr. Nadeau performs a variety of surgeries, from routine procedures in his office to full-scale surgeries in the operating room. His services include colonoscopies, laparoscopic hernia/appendix/gallbladder procedures, ultrasound-guided breast biopsies, stereotactic breast biopsies (using X-rays), mastectomies, small bowel and colon surgery, port placements for chemotherapy and medications, feeding tubes, pacemakers, wound care, removal of lumps and bumps, as well as various other general surgery procedures.

He is well known for his minimally invasive surgical approach to treating hemorrhoids. This newer outpatient procedure, called transanal hemorrhoidal dearterialization, reduces blood supply to the hemorrhoid. Because there is no surgical removal of tissue, the patient experiences less pain, a shorter recovery time, and a reduced risk of complications compared to traditional hemorrhoid surgery.

Dr. Nadeau received his medical degree from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Maine. He completed an internship and general surgical residency at Mercy Suburban Hospital in Pennsylvania. He has been serving as a general surgeon in the US Army Reserves since 2004, with deployments to Iraq and Kosovo. He is a member of the American Medical Association, American Osteopathic Association, and American College of Osteopathic Surgeons.

For more information call his office at (217) 465-2606.
