School supply drive to benefit TH kids

Staples, Boys & Girls Clubs of America and teen actor Jake T. Austin are kicking off the sixth annual Staples for Students National School Supply Drive.

Supplies can be dropped off at Staples through Aug. 18. Staples will then put the supplies in the hands of Boys & Girls Club students.

Customers can also donate $1 or more toward the effort through Sept. 28.

All donations at the Terre Haute store, at 125 Davis Ave., will benefit students at the Terre Haute Boys & Girls Club.


Networking at Noon welcomes Bucshon

The Parke County Chamber of Commerce will welcome Congressman Larry Bucshon to its Networking at Noon meeting on Wednesday in the banquet room at the American Legion building on U.S. 36 in downtown Rockville.  

Also on the agenda, Cathy Harkrider will provide the latest information on the planning for the 2013 Covered Bridge Festival.

This meeting is open to all Chamber members, their guests and local government officials.   

 The Networking programs are designed to provide Chamber business updates as well as opportunities for Chamber members to mix and mingle with potential customers and suppliers.

Fundraising for mural under way

Fundraising is under way for the Marshall Walldogs Project in Marshall. Organizers hope to raise $10,000 by Aug. 15 for a mural to be painted on the Clark County Genealogical Library Wall during Autumn Fest weekend, scheduled for Sept. 19-22.

Members of the community are encouraged to bring a lawn chair at 9 p.m. CDT Sept. 18 to watch the Walldogs, a group of sign and mural artists from all over the globe, as they start work on the mural.

Tresses by Telia, a new hair salon, has opened at 1108 Ohio St.

Stylist Telia Foster has seven years of corporate experience in the business. Growing up with her aunt Bobbie DeBow, an experienced business person and hair stylist for 19 years, inspired her to go into cosmetology and pursue owning her own salon.
