The Indiana State Police recently recognized the commander of the Indiana State Police Training Division for his 30 years of dedicated service to the department and the citizens of Indiana. Major Brent Johnson was presented with a 30-year certificate and uniform medallion, which signifies his duration of service.

Johnson is a Putnam County native. After graduating from Greencastle High School, he entered the United States Army, where he served four years of active duty. Upon completion of his military service, Johnson applied and was accepted to the ISP 41st Recruit School. He was appointed an Indiana State Police trooper on Dec. 25, 1983. He was assigned to the former Terre Haute District and patrolled Clay County.

During his time at the former Terre Haute District, Johnson was promoted to squad sergeant, first sergeant and, ultimately, lieutenant, where he served as the district commander.

While serving as the Terre Haute District commander, Johnson was promoted to captain and served as commander of the Indiana State Police Area V. After serving in this capacity for a few months, Johnson was promoted to his current rank of major.

Johnson spent 16 years on the ISP SCUBA team and 19 years with US Army Reserves 733 Military Police Company. Johnson is married with four grown children and nine grandchildren, and he and his wife live in rural Clay County.
