Dr. Grace Walker’s practice at 476 Buckeye St., was recently honored with a Star Performer Award from MDwise.
MDwise is Indiana’s only nonprofit managed health care organization serving Hoosiers covered by the Hoosier Healthwise, Healthy Indiana Plan and Care Select health programs. The clinic received this recognition for going above and beyond to provide high levels of quality and service to patients.
“The Star Performer Award recognizes the providers in our network who are exceptional in their delivery of services and are committed to continuous improvement in providing ‘the Best Care,’” said Caroline Carney Doebbeling, chief medical officer of MDwise.
MDwise sought out specific criteria when selecting the Star Performer honorees, including achieving measures of clinical performance, best practice implementation, patient outreach and compassion, as well as having a shared passion for quality throughout the office.
To further recognize the hard work of these individuals, MDwise has launched web pages that feature interviews with staff from each honored office. The content of the interviews ranges from what inspires each honoree to how it felt to receive the recognition. To read those interviews as they are posted, go to MDwise.org/starperformers.

Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann joined business leaders from across the state to present 20 companies with the Indiana Small Business Development Center’s Economic Development through Growth and Entrepreneurship Awards during a Statehouse ceremony on Feb. 6.
Sponsored by the Indiana Economic Development Corp.’s Small Business Development Centers, the awards recognize clients of the agency’s 10 regional offices located throughout the state in two categories — emerging and established. Recipients are chosen by their regional centers.
Award recipients include Brown Veterinary Hospital in Terre Haute in the “emerging” category.
“Brand new ventures or seasoned businesses, these companies have made great strides for Indiana’s workforce and business landscape,” Ellspermann said. “With fresh ideas and new energy as a trademark, the Hoosier State will continue to encourage many more entrepreneurs like these to build our future. Congratulations to this year’s award recipients who have worked hard to earn this recognition.”
Together, these businesses represent 195 full-time Indiana jobs and in total finished 2012 with more than $6 million in sales.
Nearly half of the U.S. private sector workforce is employed by small businesses according to the U.S. Small Business Administration. The administration report says that small businesses account for the majority of net private-sector job creation in the United States over the last 15 years.
