Fort Harrison Industrial Park’s Distributors Terminal earns Centennial Business Award

Company built reputation in grain, cured meats

TERRE HAUTE — Distributors Terminal Corp. of Terre Haute was honored with the Centennial Business Award by the Indiana Historical Society on Dec. 3 at its annual Founders Day Dinner. The award places Distributors Terminal on the Society’s Historic Business Register, which includes more than 300 Indiana companies that have achieved 100-plus years of being in business.

Distributors Terminal traces its history back to 1868 with the founding of Bauermeister & Busch, a grocery wholesale company in Terre Haute. In 1905, owner Charles W. Bauermeister used that company’s assets to establish the Chas. W. Bauermeister Co., which later became Bauermeister Terminal Co., a warehouser and carrier of goods, wares and merchandise.

In 1935, the company was reorganized under the name Distributors Terminal Corp. The business was acquired by the Dale Hendricks family in 1977.

Today, Distributors Terminal provides logistics warehousing services to companies across the Midwest, serving product manufacturers, retailers and suppliers in the food, pharmaceuticals, plastics, paper and digital media packaging industries.

It operates three facilities, totaling over 375,000 square feet, and provides food grade (AIB Superior), climate-controlled, cold and ambient storage services.

Distributors Terminal’s contributions in financial and in-kind donations and volunteer time in the Terre Haute community have benefitted Junior Achievement, Terre Haute Boys and Girls Club, Boy Scouts of America, United Way of the Wabash Valley, the Vigo County School Corp. and the Terre Haute Economic Development Corp.

The Indiana Historical Society’s Centennial Business Awards are presented annually to provide special recognition to Indiana companies continually in business for a century or more, to encourage the preservation of historically significant business-related archival materials, and to develop increased awareness of the state’s rich business and industrial heritage.
