Gas crews called to help with recovery

TERRE HAUTE — As restoration efforts in the Northeast continue, Vectren Energy Delivery has been asked by National Grid, an electric and gas utility, to assist with natural gas restoration efforts on the East Coast. More than 40 Vectren employees, including fitters, welders, service specialists, fitter equipment operators and a handful of supervisors, began their journey east Tuesday.

National Grid serves approximately 3.4 million gas customers in New York, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The Vectren crews will help restore gas service to flood-ravaged areas where underground gas infrastructure was impacted. These employees currently serve Vectren customers throughout Indiana and will be traveling from Evansville, Muncie, Danville, Terre Haute, Lafayette, Noblesville, Anderson, Richmond, Clarksville, Bloomington, Franklin, Fort Branch, Vincennes and Columbus.

Vectren’s gas crews join the more than 70 of Vectren’s employee and contractor line specialists, field investigators and tree trimming crews that were released prior to and immediately following the devastating storm. The Vectren employees assisting with electric restoration are performing work for Con Edison in New York and First Energy in West Virginia.
