Vigo County Sheriff’s Deputy Brent Hall and Deputy Rory Leech were promoted to the rank of sergeant.

Hall has 19 years of service with Vigo County Sheriff’s Office. He began his career as a 911 dispatcher before being appointed deputy sheriff in 1998 by Sheriff Bill Harris. Hall served as a patrol deputy, and was on the SWAT team as a sniper. He served five years in the Criminal Investigation Division, where he was instrumental in solving hundreds of felony cases. Hall is an Indiana Law Enforcement Academy certified instructor and earned a bachelor’s degree in criminology from Indiana State University.

Leech has served the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office for 10 years. Leech began his career as a correctional officer. He was awarded Correctional Officer of the Year in 2005 and was promoted to the rank of shift supervisor. Leech was appointed to deputy sheriff in 2008 by Sheriff Jon Marvel. He was recognized by Sheriff Greg Ewing in 2013 for outstanding performance. He also has served as acting shift commander. Leech served as a United States Marine in Operation Desert Storm I. He served tours in Iraq, Kuwait and Guam. He also attended two years at Indiana State University.

Hall and Sgt. Leech will both be assigned as patrol shift sergeants.


Jan Croft, MS, LMHC, NCC, a mental health counselor who is starting a part-time private practice with The Maple Center for Integrative Health in June.

Croft has a unique background as a physical therapist who has worked with Covered Bridge special Education District for many years. In 2007 she graduated from Indiana State University with her master’s degree in mental health counseling.  Her internship for that training included counseling work at the Maple Center and attending the Mind Body Medicine Training Course offered by the Center for Mind Body Medicine led by Dr. James Gordon. In addition to her continued work with children as a physical therapist, she has worked with Union Hospital’s Employee Assistance Program providing counseling to employees since 2007.

Her special interests include women’s issues; issues related to aging and phase of life changes; mood and anxiety disorders; guided Imagery, visualization and relaxation techniques; and chronic health and disability issues.
