WTHI-TV’s Mark Allen to retire

TERRE HAUTE — After nearly a half century of work in Indiana television, WTHI-TV’s longtime anchor, Mark Allen, will be retiring at the end of June.

Allen is a lifelong resident of the Wabash Valley.

“Working at NEWS 10 WTHI is a joy for me,” Allen said. “I’m surrounded by people I enjoy, and they are people who work very hard to do the best job they can each day.”

Allen is a member of the Indiana Broadcasters Association’s Hall of Fame and the Associated Press Hall of Fame. In 2008, The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Ohio Valley Chapter, inducted Allen into the prestigious Silver Circle, which honors television professionals. Recipients have performed distinguished service within the media industry for at least 25 years or more, a significant part within the Ohio Valley region of Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana and West Virginia.

Susan Dinkel, News 10 news director, said, “Mark has believed in me from the moment we first met. He’s been my teacher, cheerleader, role model, inspiration and most importantly, my friend. He has paved the way for me and so many of my colleagues.”

Patrece Dayton, Allen’s co-anchor, said, “Mark has been my work partner for the last 23 years. We have worked so long and so well together, we know what the nod of a head means during a newscast, or if the other person breathes differently what that means.
