Learn about scams, fraud, identity theft at program

TERRE HAUTE — Senior Education Ministries Inc. has scheduled its next Lunch with a Lawyer from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 18 at the Wabash Senior Activity Center, at 300 S. Fifth St.

This month’s guest is Michelle Mayer, director of Outreach Services and Indiana Triad Liaison Office of the Indiana Attorney General. Mayer is part of the Consumer Protection Division and works to bring the services of the office directly into communities and provides forums to educate Hoosiers on protecting themselves from becoming victims of scams, fraud and identity theft. She and her staff have directly reached more than 67,000 Hoosiers since their program started in 2009, conducting programs in all 92 counties. She also serves as the office’s liaison to the Indiana Triad Chapters.

Mayer will share with the seniors how they can be a part of as part of a SALT Council for a Triad in Vigo County. Senior citizens are all too often victims of consumer fraud and scams. Triad is a unique and effective partnership between senior citizens and law enforcement officials designed to foster education and the prevention of consumer fraud while promoting safety issues.

Lunch will be provided. A “Mission Moment” speaker (community service agency) will provide information about their services. The event is free, but space is limited and reservations are required. RSVP by calling 812-232-7575.

Lunch with a Lawyer welcomes suggestions regarding speakers. Call to Senior Education Ministries at 812-917-4970 or email loriaplin@gmail.com.
