Tele-Institutes coming up

Special to the Tribune-Star

TERRE HAUTE Local government officials and other community leaders have the opportunity to gain valuable information without leaving the county, thanks to University of Illinois Extension’s Tele-Institutes. The Tele-Institute program also provides the opportunity for county officials to earn Certified County Official (CCO) credit. Each Tele-Institute qualifies for two hours of general CCO credit.

Tele-Institutes will be broadcast over a statewide audio-teleconferencing system through Illinois county extension offices. The programs will be offered from 3 to 5 p.m. at the U of I Extension Clark County office, south of Marshall on Illinois 1.

The registration fee for each program is $5. A minimum of four participants are required to host each program. Registration should be completed no later than Wednesday. Those interested in participating should call (217) 826-5422.

The first, “Reducing Flood Losses and Protecting Floodplain Resources in Illinois,” is Thursday. This session will highlight concepts, tools and community success stories to enhance floodplain management in your county.

“Energy Conservation — It’s All in the Details” is Oct. 22. This program will focus on how local governments can conserve energy, decrease energy costs and reduce the negative impacts on the environment.

“Legislative Update 2009” is Nov. 19. This Tele-Institute will provide all local government officials with a review of current state and federal legislative issues. Officials will learn the progress of the issues and the impact they have on Illinois local governments and the communities they serve. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss new legislation with professionals who specialize in state and federal legislative issues.
