Porter completes recertification process
Community work incentive coordinator Norma Porter recently completed a 12-week assessment and recertification process for the Social Security Administration’s Work Incentive Planning and Assistance project.
Porter, formerly certified under the Benefits Planning Assistance and Outreach program as a benefits counselor, received the additional training as part of the Social Security Administration’s effort to ensure competency for all coordinators who work with Social Security beneficiaries within the Work Incentive Planning and Assistance project. All community work incentive coordinators must successfully complete all sections of the assessment and achieve a minimum score of 80 percent.
Porter successfully completed the recertification April 26. As a fully trained professional, she is prepared to help SSI or SSDI beneficiaries age 14 to 64 who are considering working, going to school or starting their own business by answering their questions on work incentives that may be available to them, particularly in the area of return to work supports.
For those who live in Vermillion, Parke, Vigo, Clay, Owen, Sullivan, Greene, Knox, Daviess, Martin, Dubois, Pike, Gibson, Posey, Vanderburgh, Warrick or Spencer counties and would like more information, Porter is available by calling toll-free 1-800-206-6610.

Snow plow drivers Roadeo coming up
Terre Haute’s Truck Roadeo for snow plow drivers employed by the Indiana Department of Transportation is 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the subdistrict office, 5693 East Sony Drive.
The top two district drivers will have the chance to compete before a crowd at the Indiana State Fair in August.
During the Roadeo, INDOT plow drivers face a number of challenging stations to simulate real obstacles they would encounter on the roadway. Stations include alley backing, straight line course, diminishing clearance and vehicle inspections (where drivers search for planted mechanical defects on their plows). Drivers start with a set number of points, and face point deductions for each error. Safety is emphasized during the competition: each time a driver operates their plow without a safety belt, their score is docked 50 points.
