Scott M. Kyrouac of the Terre Haute firm of Wilkinson, Goeller, Modesitt, Wilkinson & Drummy was named the DTCI 2008 “Defense Lawyer of the Year” at the association’s 15th annual meeting and conference on Nov. 20-21 at Turkey Run State Park in Marshall, Ind.
The Defense Lawyer of the Year award is presented to the lawyer who has promoted the interests of the Indiana Defense Bar in a most significant way in the fields of litigation, legislation, publication, or participation in local, state, or national defense organizations.
The DTCI is the professional organization of civil defense attorneys in Indiana promoting excellence in civil litigation and supporting the administration of justice in the courts and mediation.

Thurman V. Alvey III of Terre Haute was honored recently at the Indiana Osteopathic Association’s annual convention. He was named Outstanding Youth D.O. of the Year for 2009, an honor which is reserved for physicians who have been in practice less than 10 years and who have made significant contributions to the Association and their communities. Alvey currently serves as second vice president of the IOA.
Alvey received his osteopathic medical degree from Pikeville College School of Osteopathic Medicine at Pikeville, Ky., in 2003. He completed his internship at Union Hospital in Terre Haute and his residency in family medicine at the hospital in 2006. He is certified in family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine, and in family practice and osteopathic manipulative treatment by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Practice. He practices family medicine and OMT in Terre Haute.

The Persimmon Solera from Purgatory Cellars/White Owl Winery, (whiteowlwinery.com) of Birds, Ill., received a gold medal in the sixth annual Critics Challenge International Wine Competition May 23-24 in San Diego, Calif.
This sherry-type wine is crafted from wild harvested Midwestern persimmons and is the only commercially produced persimmon sherry in the world. The Persimmon Solera has a lush, ripe persimmon flavor, with hints of caramel and butterscotch, finishing on a chest-warming nutty note. It is available for sale throughout the Midwest.
The 15 judges for the competition are renowned wine journalists from around the world, highly respected for their professional tasting skills and integrity.
More than 1,400 wine from around the globe were entered, with just over 600 wines winning medals. Winners will be published in the pages of the highly acclaimed Wine Review Online, magazine, including excerpts from the judges’ tasting notes.
